FaceTime is a mobile app developed by Apple Inc. This app only works on an Apple device and will not work on any non-Apple devices or any video calling services that are on the market.
Not the likes of Mac OS X’s iChat, FactTime currently doesn’t have a group conference feature. This app only works on a one-on-one video chat which only two people are allowed to talk at once. For example, if a different person calls and the user answers, the video chat with ends and will switch to the new video chat with the second caller. For an iPhone device, if there’s a pending phone call and the user will answer, the video call will end directly, and the phone call will commence with the next user.
In particular, if a user is FaceTiming with someone and emails, messages, and other notifications pop-up, the app will immediately be paused when looked at. Prior to the release of the iOS 6, the app once requires a WiFi connection to work. Also, devices which have an iOS 6 OS onwards, FaceTime for the iPad and iPhone can run the app over a cellular network via 3G or LTE provided that their carries have enabled it.
The FaceTime Audio consumes at least three megabytes of data for every five minutes of talk time. For FaceTime video, it uses more data. Take note that cellular talk/minutes are not consumed after a user switches from an audio call to a FaceTime call.
